Stumptown Lunch News: Beers at Burgerville?

February 5th, 2009 · 3 Comments

This is an interesting story. While it’s common to see alcohol served in fast food joints in Europe, it’s pretty unheard of here in the U.S. But that might be about to change if a new Burgerville in Vancouver gets their liquor license approved.

If approved, the Burgerville location will offer beer and wine along with their burgers and fries. If the plan is successful, the company might consider expanding alcohol sales to all of their restaurants. (Um, I don’t think this is very likely to happen in Oregon with our rigid OLCC, but who knows!)

No word if you will be able to get a brew to-go at the drive-thru!

Do you think serving beer and wine at a fast food restaurant is a good idea? Vote in our new poll!

i heard burgerville applied to be the food vendor in park block 5/director park last year. it ended up going to someone else but part of the requirement for a restaurant in the unde cronstruction park was to have a liquor license.

Can someone explain the appeal of Burgerville to me? We recently moved from Michigan – and have found the food in Vancouver and Portland to be FAR superior to 95% of the food found in Ann Arbor … with the exception of Burgerville. We have tried the place twice and both times we were unimpressed with the food. Tonight I ordered the “fish” and chips – very small pieces of fish that were bland. I took one bit of the fish and a cold fry, and asked to exchange for a burger. The burger was better, but still not good. So – why are they so popular?

I know of two Mexican fast food chains that serve brews – Chipotle and Baja Fresh. I’m sure there are more, those are just off the top of my head.

@Catherine – My father is all about Burgerville, and both he and I are Portland natives. I like their burgers, but haven’t gotten adventurous about their other menu items.
